Primary Fiber Crops Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022

The average primary fiber crops import price stood at $843 per ton in 2022, surging by 8.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,074 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,597 per ton), while the price for India ($638 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Primary Fiber Crops Price in Canada (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average primary fiber crops export price amounted to $1,534 per ton, shrinking by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,567 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,805 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($928 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Primary Fiber Crops Imports in Canada

For the fourth year in a row, Canada recorded growth in overseas purchases of fiber crops (primary), which increased by 1.6% to 22K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, primary fiber crops imports rose significantly to $19M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +81.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, primary fiber crops exports soared to $1.8M in 2022. Overall, exports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
