The average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $155 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -26.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $255 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($452 per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($39 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $1,065 per ton in 2022, dropping by -12.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 56%. The import price peaked at $2,532 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,505 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($150 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. 225K tons of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds were exported from Turkey; waning by -20.3% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 282K tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds fell sharply to $35M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 2.4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $59M, and then fell markedly in the following year.
