In 2022, the average flax, tow and waste import price amounted to $4,200 per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $11,033 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to -9.2% per year.
Imports of Flax, Tow and Waste in Nepal
In 2022, supplies from abroad of flax, tow and waste decreased by -92.3% to 5 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 9.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 105 kg. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, flax, tow and waste imports declined significantly to $21 in 2022. Overall, imports saw a dramatic decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $473. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
