Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in Morocco (CIF) - 2022

The average butter and dairy spreads import price stood at $6,648 per ton in December 2022, picking up by 6.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $7,468 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was France ($10,496 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($6,212 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in Morocco (FOB) - 2022

The average butter and dairy spreads export price stood at $6,618 per ton in 2022, rising by 37% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 166% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,649 per ton in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($10,607 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritania ($1,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+26.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Butter and Dairy Spreads in Morocco

In 2022, the amount of butter and dairy spreads imported into Morocco amounted to 15K tons, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 5.3%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 16K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports soared to $87M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
