Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in India (FOB) - 2023

The average butter and dairy spreads export price stood at $5,401 per ton in July 2023, declining by -5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 8.4% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,787 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($6,727 per ton) and Oman ($6,388 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($4,668 per ton) and Bangladesh ($4,805 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bhutan (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in India (CIF) - 2022

The average butter and dairy spreads import price stood at $7,949 per ton in 2022, increasing by 32% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads import price increased by +69.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($8,310 per ton) and France ($8,295 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($5,582 per ton) and Denmark ($7,204 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+40.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Butter and Dairy Spreads in India

In 2022, the amount of butter and dairy spreads exported from India surged to 19K tons, rising by 140% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep contraction.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads exports skyrocketed to $88M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt decrease.

Imports of Butter and Dairy Spreads in India

In 2022, supplies from abroad of butter and dairy spreads decreased by -46% to 128 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 594 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports declined markedly to $1M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.8M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
