Preserved Olive Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
The average preserved olive import price stood at $1,970 per ton in June 2023, surging by 34% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($2,642 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($1,522 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Preserved Olive Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average preserved olive export price amounted to $3,805 per ton, which is down by -5.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,040 per ton in May 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($5,401 per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($2,207 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Olive Imports in Italy
In 2022, imports of olives prepared or preserved into Italy rose significantly to 88K tons, picking up by 6.8% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable contraction.
In value terms, preserved olive imports soared to $152M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Preserved Olive Exports in Italy
For the fourth consecutive year, Italy recorded growth in shipments abroad of olives prepared or preserved, which increased by 9.5% to 33K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, preserved olive exports totaled $122M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
