Tomato Price in Slovenia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average tomato import price amounted to $1,873 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, tomato import price increased by +36.1% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 22% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,612 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,470 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,152 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Price in Slovenia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average tomato export price amounted to $1,597 per ton, with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, tomato export price increased by +36.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($2,252 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($899 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Imports in Slovenia
In 2022, overseas purchases of tomatoes decreased by -6.1% to 10K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 0.7%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tomato imports reduced slightly to $17M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1.4%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $18M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tomato exports rose to $3.7M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
