Carrot and Turnip Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023

The average carrot and turnip export price stood at $590 per ton in July 2023, reducing by -3.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.9% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $671 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hong Kong SAR ($708 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($634 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($519 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($540 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average carrot and turnip import price stood at $3,108 per ton in 2022, surging by 520% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a remarkable increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United Arab Emirates amounted to -1.9% per year.

Carrot and Turnip Exports in Australia

In 2022, overseas shipments of carrots and turnips decreased by -7.9% to 95K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 3.3%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 110K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, carrot and turnip exports declined to $62M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 6.2%.
