Paper and Paperboard Price in Croatia (CIF) - 2022
The average paper and paperboard import price stood at $1,176 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,615 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($772 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bosnia and Herzegovina (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper and Paperboard Price in Croatia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average paper and paperboard export price amounted to $832 per ton, surging by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, paper and paperboard export price increased by +80.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($6,242 per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+27.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper and Paperboard Imports in Croatia
Paper and paperboard imports into Croatia shrank modestly to 396K tons in 2022, standing approx. at the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 400K tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports skyrocketed to $466M in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 228K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, paper and paperboard exports soared to $173M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 64%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
