Which Country Exports the Most Toilet Or Facial Tissue Stock, Towel and Similar Paper in the World?

In 2016, the amount of tissue paper exported worldwide amounted to 2.8M tonnes, picking up by 4% against the previous year level. Overall, it indicated a prominent increase from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, tissue paper exports increased by +58.1% against its level of 2007. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when exports increased by 9% against the previous year level. Global tissue paper export peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, tissue paper exports stood at $3.5B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. Over the period under review, global tissue paper exports attained its maximum level of $3.7B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Tissue Paper Exports By Country

In 2016, Indonesia (497K tonnes), followed by Italy (312K tonnes), Turkey (266K tonnes), China (169K tonnes), the U.S. (160K tonnes), Germany (160K tonnes), and Canada (132K tonnes) were the largest exporters of tissue paper, together achieving 60% of total exports. Sweden (105K tonnes), Mexico (81K tonnes), Spain (75K tonnes), France (74K tonnes), and Poland (70K tonnes) held the minor share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of tissue paper exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (+21.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($504M), Italy ($351M) and Germany ($267M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together accounting for 32% of global exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, China, the U.S., Canada, Sweden, France, Mexico, Spain and Poland, which together accounted for a further 41%.

Turkey (+20.0% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of tissue paper exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tissue Paper Export Prices By Country

The average tissue paper export price stood at $1,235 per tonne in 2016, lowering by -5.1% against the previous year. In general, tissue paper export price continues to indicate a temperate shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, when export increased by 9% against the previous year level. In that year, average tissue paper export price reached its maximum level of $1,628 per tonne. From 2009 to 2016, growth of average tissue paper export price failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Sweden ($1,726 per tonne), while Turkey ($997 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of tissue paper export prices was attained by China (+4.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
