Orange Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021

The average orange import price stood at $1,097 per ton in December 2021, jumping by 16% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in December 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,677 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($810 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Orange Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

In December 2021, the average orange export price amounted to $873 per ton, picking up by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2021 when the average export price increased by 49% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,026 per ton in December 2020; however, from January 2021 to December 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($1,527 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($713 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Orange Imports in Malaysia

In 2022, imports of oranges into Malaysia rose sharply to 115K tons, surging by 7.4% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, orange imports expanded significantly to $109M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Orange Exports in Malaysia

For the fourth year in a row, Malaysia recorded growth in shipments abroad of oranges, which increased by 46% to 7.8K tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 300%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, orange exports skyrocketed to $5M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 354% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
