In July 2023, the average mandarins export price amounted to $1,589 per ton, rising by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 37% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,006 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ireland ($2,754 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($114 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average mandarins import price amounted to $1,220 per ton, picking up by 6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,648 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.
From 2017 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to +2.5% per year.
Mandarins Exports in Spain
In 2022, shipments abroad of fruit, edible decreased by -6.8% to 248K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 266K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, mandarins exports reduced to $347M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 36%.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of fruit, edible, when their volume decreased by -57.2% to 13K tons. In general, imports, however, posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 192%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 30K tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, mandarins imports dropped sharply to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 145% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $34M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
