Mandarin and Clementine Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average mandarin and clementine import price amounted to $1,917 per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, mandarin and clementine import price decreased by -31.3% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 18% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,793 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($3,096 per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($1,542 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Mandarin and Clementine Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average mandarin and clementine export price amounted to $2,024 per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The export price peaked at $2,427 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,184 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,879 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Mandarin and Clementine Imports in Switzerland

In 2022, purchases abroad of tangerines, mandarins, clementines, satsumas decreased by -3.6% to 42K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 45K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mandarin and clementine imports fell to $72M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 19%.

In value terms, mandarin and clementine exports surged to $552K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
