Lettuce and Chicory Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average lettuce and chicory export price amounted to $1,805 per ton, shrinking by -39% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 an increase of 40% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,977 per ton. From November 2022 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,769 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Lettuce and Chicory Price in Australia (CIF) - 2022

The average lettuce and chicory import price stood at $3,358 per ton in 2022, surging by 51% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $4,696 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($6,095 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,467 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+21.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, Australia recorded decline in shipments abroad of lettuce and chicory, which decreased by -11.5% to 1.1K tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep reduction.

In value terms, lettuce and chicory exports plummeted to $5.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The smallest decline of -3% was in 2021.
