Preserved Sweet Corn Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021

In December 2021, the average preserved sweet corn import price amounted to $1,178 per ton, dropping by -11% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2021 an increase of 15% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,324 per ton, and then fell in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($1,369 per ton), while the price for China ($817 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Preserved Sweet Corn Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average preserved sweet corn export price amounted to $1,205 per ton, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,251 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($1,306 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brunei Darussalam totaled $1,070 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Papua New Guinea (-6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Preserved Sweet Corn Imports in Malaysia

In 2022, purchases abroad of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -2% to 7.4K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports reduced modestly to $8M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 21%.

Preserved Sweet Corn Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, overseas shipments of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -41.3% to 104 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 357%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 178 tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn exports plummeted to $126K in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 389% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $209K, and then reduced notably in the following year.
