Honey Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average honey import price amounted to $4,327 per ton, surging by 38% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 59% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,674 per ton. From December 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($6,810 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($1,890 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average honey export price amounted to $7,228 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 35% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $7,360 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($22,623 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($4,198 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Imports in the Netherlands

In 2022, approx. 17K tons of honey were imported into the Netherlands; falling by -1.5% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 18K tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, honey imports reduced to $65M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $75M, and then declined in the following year.

Honey Exports in the Netherlands

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of honey decreased by -21.1% to 4.8K tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 116% against the previous year.

In value terms, honey exports shrank markedly to $23M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 118%.
