Honey Price in Italy (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average honey import price amounted to $4,003 per ton, falling by -13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,599 per ton, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($5,693 per ton), while the price for China ($1,615 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average honey export price amounted to $7,198 per ton, with an increase of 38% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, honey export price decreased by -9.2% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 46% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,924 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($21,301 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($2,525 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Imports in Italy
In 2022, approx. 27K tons of honey were imported into Italy; surging by 14% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.
