Manuka Market Size in Italy

In 2019, the Italian manuka market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of manuka exports from Italy, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Africa, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark and the U.S., which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in South Africa (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest markets for manuka exported from Italy worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The Netherlands, the U.S., Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Luxembourg, Denmark and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X Africa (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average manuka export price stood at $X per tonne in 2019, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2019, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of manuka decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2019. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, manuka imports fell dramatically to $X in 2019. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth.
