Honey Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average honey export price stood at $1,724 per ton in September 2023, rising by 3.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,797 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,241 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,393 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Price in China (CIF) - 2022
The average honey import price stood at $19,106 per ton in 2022, waning by -20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 70%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $23,897 per ton in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($113,988 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,155 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+50.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Exports in China
For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of honey, which increased by 6.9% to 156K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 10%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, honey exports expanded markedly to $278M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Honey Imports in China
In 2022, the amount of honey imported into China declined markedly to 3.7K tons, with a decrease of -15.2% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 4.2%.
In value terms, honey imports declined remarkably to $71M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $105M, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
