Grain Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average grain import price amounted to $400 per ton, surging by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, grain import price increased by +59.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($482 per ton) and the United States ($436 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($354 per ton) and Argentina ($354 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Grain Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average grain export price amounted to $400 per ton, which is down by -69.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 398%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,328 per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($5,059 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines amounted to $304 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+5.5%).

Grain Imports in Indonesia

In 2022, grain imports into Indonesia dropped dramatically to 11M tons, with a decrease of -15.4% on the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13M tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, grain imports rose remarkably to $4.3B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, exports of grain from Indonesia skyrocketed to 126K tons, jumping by 2,848% against the year before. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, grain exports soared to $50M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion.
