Ghee Price in China (CIF) - 2023

The average ghee import price stood at $5,761 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -3.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 3.1% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6,882 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,336 per ton), while the price for New Zealand amounted to $5,686 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.8%).

Ghee Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average ghee export price stood at $5,035 per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($11,804 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($4,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+27.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghee Imports in China

For the fourth consecutive year, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of ghee, which increased by 24% to 41K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, ghee imports surged to $268M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ghee Exports in China

In 2022, exports of ghee from China skyrocketed to 592 tons, jumping by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 287% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, ghee exports surged to $3M in 2022. In general, exports showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 336%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
