Ghee Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023

The average ghee import price stood at $6,461 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 9.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $8,623 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($7,294 per ton) and Spain ($7,125 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($6,016 per ton) and France ($6,546 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghee Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average ghee export price amounted to $8,417 per ton, surging by 39% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ghee export price increased by +53.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($9,840 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($6,062 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghee Imports in Belgium

In 2022, the amount of ghee imported into Belgium contracted rapidly to 33K tons, waning by -16.9% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 40K tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, ghee imports amounted to $254M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Ghee Exports in Belgium

In 2022, shipments abroad of ghee decreased by -15.2% to 22K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 2.9% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 26K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ghee exports soared to $181M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
