Fiberboard Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average fiberboard export price amounted to $110 per cubic meter, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 149% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $353 per cubic meter in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($144 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Romania ($73 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fiberboard Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
The average fiberboard import price stood at $144 per cubic meter in August 2023, shrinking by -17.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $186 per cubic meter in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($210 per cubic meter), while the price for France ($65.2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fiberboard Exports in Hungary
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials decreased by -10.2% to 1M cubic meters in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 1.1M cubic meters in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, fiberboard exports reduced slightly to $113M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +37.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $119M, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Fiberboard Imports in Hungary
For the fourth year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in supplies from abroad of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials, which increased by 23% to 807K cubic meters in 2022. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 646%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, fiberboard imports skyrocketed to $118M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
