Date Price in the United Arab Emirates (FOB) - 2022
The average date export price stood at $1,006 per ton in 2022, reducing by -3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 32%. The export price peaked at $1,041 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($1,688 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sri Lanka (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Price in the United Arab Emirates (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average date import price amounted to $775 per ton, with an increase of 3% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, date import price increased by +30.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $933 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,314 per ton), while the price for India ($90 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Date Exports in the United Arab Emirates
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of dates decreased by -21.9% to 204K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13%.
In value terms, date exports declined dramatically to $205M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $272M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
