In July 2023, the average date import price amounted to $2,125 per ton, which is down by -2.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 32% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,872 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,311 per ton), while the price for Tunisia stood at $2,083 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.6%).
Date Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
The average date export price stood at $8,655 per ton in 2022, increasing by 120% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 149%. The export price peaked at $11,417 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($8,436 per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay totaled $1,799 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+73.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Imports in Brazil
In 2022, the amount of dates imported into Brazil soared to 1.7K tons, rising by 29% on 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, shipments abroad of dates decreased by -89.8% to 1.3 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 31 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, date exports contracted remarkably to $11K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a sharp decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 158%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $110K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
