Cotton Lint Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022

The average cotton lint import price stood at $2,477 per ton in 2022, jumping by 41% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,000 per ton), while the price for India ($1,863 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cotton Lint Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

The average cotton lint export price stood at $874 per ton in 2022, waning by -58.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,519 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +42.2% per year.

Cotton Lint Imports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, approx. 93 tons of cotton lint were imported into Sri Lanka; with a decrease of -96.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a dramatic decline.
