Which Country Exports the Most Fiber Crops in the World?

Global primary fiber crops exports amounted to 1,248 thousand tonnes in 2015, ascending by +1.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the global primary fiber crops exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, was roller-coasting throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +64% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global primary fiber crops exports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $476 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +18.7%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Primary Fiber Crops Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the primary fiber crops exports in absolute volumes was India (650 thousand tonnes), accounting for 52% of global exports. It was followed by Sri Lanka (312 thousand tonnes), with a share of 25% of global exports. Moreover, primary fiber crops exports in India exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Sri Lanka, twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Thailand with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of primary fiber crops exports in India stood at +24.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Sri Lanka (+17.2% per year) and Thailand (+5.2% per year).

In value terms, India (164 million USD), Sri Lanka (118 million USD) and Brazil (54 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 71% of total exports.

Brazil (+110.9% per year) had the highest growth rates of primary fiber crops exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
