In March 2023, the average cold-rolled steel products import price amounted to $3,365 per ton, rising by 273% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a strong increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,982 per ton), while the price for China totaled $3,242 per ton.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cold-rolled steel products export price stood at $1,024 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -29.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,084 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Haiti ($2,044 per ton), while the average price for exports to Grenada ($522 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+25.0%).

In 2022, imports of flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than cold-rolled) into the Dominican Republic expanded notably to 13K tons, with an increase of 13% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 87%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, shipments abroad of flat-rolled products of iron or steel (not further worked than cold-rolled) increased by 183% to 64 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cold-rolled steel products exports skyrocketed to $65K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction.
