Citrus Fruit Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average citrus fruit import price amounted to $981 per ton, waning by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,028 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,282 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($611 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average citrus fruit export price stood at $1,268 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 13%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,323 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($1,470 per ton) and Austria ($1,449 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,107 per ton) and Poland ($1,127 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Citrus Fruit Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits decreased by -3.9% to 1.3M tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.4M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit imports declined to $1.3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.4B. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
