Cinnamon Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average cinnamon import price amounted to $6,776 per ton, growing by 15% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 26% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,971 per ton. From April 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($10,999 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($5,445 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cinnamon Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023

The average cinnamon export price stood at $6,419 per ton in June 2023, surging by 12% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 54% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,716 per ton. From October 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,919 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK amounted to $2,559 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+2.1%).

Cinnamon Imports in Canada

In 2022, approx. 3.3K tons of cinnamon (canella) were imported into Canada; with an increase of 13% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cinnamon imports surged to $22M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, cinnamon exports soared to $2.5M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
