Butter Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2023

The average butter import price stood at $7,411 per ton in September 2023, surging by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $8,502 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($7,839 per ton), while the price for New Zealand amounted to $6,630 per ton.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (-0.2%).

Butter Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average butter export price amounted to $2,906 per ton, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter export price decreased by -25.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 56%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,883 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($7,073 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($1,596 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter Imports in Thailand

In 2022, approx. 2.8K tons of butter were imported into Thailand; with a decrease of -6.1% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.9K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, butter imports expanded modestly to $21M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
