Butter and Ghee Price in China (CIF) - 2022

The average butter and ghee import price stood at $6,498 per ton in 2022, jumping by 28% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and ghee import price increased by +37.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($8,577 per ton), while the price for Australia ($5,296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter and Ghee Price in China (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average butter and ghee export price amounted to $4,363 per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,429 per ton in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($6,043 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic People's Republic of Korea ($2,916 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter and Ghee Imports in China

In 2022, the amount of butter and ghee imported into China expanded sharply to 143K tons, with an increase of 9.1% against 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, butter and ghee imports soared to $929M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, butter and ghee exports skyrocketed to $9.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 66%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
