Which Country Imports the Most Green Coffee in the World?

Global green coffee imports amounted to 6,707 thousand tonnes in 2015, jumping by +2.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the global green coffee imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +5% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global green coffee imports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global green coffee imports amounted to $20,224 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global green coffee imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +5.4%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Green Coffee Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the green coffee imports in 2015 were the United States (1,357 thousand tonnes), Germany (1,032 thousand tonnes), Italy (528 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 43% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of green coffee imports among the main importing countries was attained by Belgium (+5.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States (4,826 million USD), Germany (2,767 million USD) and Italy (1,546 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 45% of total imports.

Switzerland (+12.4% per year) had the highest growth rates of green coffee imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
