Global chili and pepper imports amounted to 3,072 thousand tonnes in 2015, leveling off at the previous year level.Overall, the global chili and pepper imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global chili and pepper imports attained its maximum volume of 3,077 thousand tonnes in 2014, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, global chili and pepper imports amounted to $4,749 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global chili and pepper imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +2.2%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Chili And Pepper Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the chili and pepper imports in absolute volumes was the United States (948 thousand tonnes), accounting for 31% of global imports. It was followed by Germany (405 thousand tonnes), with a share of 13% of global imports. Moreover, chili and pepper imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Germany (405 thousand tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the United Kingdom with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of chili and pepper imports in the United States stood at +6.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Germany (+4.8% per year) and the United Kingdom (+4.7% per year).

In value terms, the United States (1,325 million USD), Germany (799 million USD) and the United Kingdom (419 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 54% of total imports.

the United States (+5.8% per year) had the highest growth rates of chili and pepper imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
