U.S. Mayonnaise Imports by Country

In 2020, the amount of mayonnaise, dressing, and other prepared sauces imported into the U.S. expanded markedly to 573K tonnes, growing by 7.9% compared with the year before. In value terms, purchases reached $1.1B (IndexBox estimates).

Canada (115K tonnes), Italy (78K tonnes) and Mexico (77K tonnes) were the main suppliers of mayonnaise and prepared sauces to the U.S., with a combined 47% share of total supplies.

In value terms, the largest mayonnaise and prepared sauce suppliers to the U.S. were Canada ($238M), Mexico ($174M) and Italy ($167M), with a combined 54% share of total imports. China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

The average price of mayonnaise and prepared sauces imported to the U.S. increased from $1,775 per tonne in 2019 to $1,852 per tonne in 2020.
