Cassava Production
In value terms, cassava production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export prices. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, global production growth failed to regain momentum.
The countries with the highest volumes of cassava production in 2021 were Nigeria (X tonnes), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tonnes) and Thailand (X tonnes), together comprising X% of global production. Ghana, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Angola, Tanzania, Cambodia, Cote d'Ivoire, Malawi and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Cote d'Ivoire (+X%), while cassava production for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The global average cassava yield declined to X tonnes per ha in 2021, waning by -X% against 2020 figures. Overall, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tonnes per ha. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the average cassava yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the total area harvested in terms of cassava production worldwide rose to X ha, growing by X% on the previous year. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Production By Country
The countries with the highest volumes of cassava production in 2021 were Nigeria (X tonnes), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tonnes) and Thailand (X tonnes), together accounting for X% of global production. These countries were followed by Ghana, Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Angola, Tanzania, Cambodia, Cote d'Ivoire, Malawi and Mozambique, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of cassava production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+X%), while cassava production for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, shipments abroad of cassava increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The global exports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cassava exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Thailand prevails in cassava exports structure, recording X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tonnes), generating an X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tonnes) and Costa Rica (X tonnes) - each finished at a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cassava exports from Thailand stood at +X%. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+X%) and Costa Rica (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Vietnam (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+X p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest cassava supplier worldwide, comprising X% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with an X% share of global exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand stood at +X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+X% per year) and Vietnam (-X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average cassava export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% y-o-y. The global export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per tonne), while Vietnam ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Cassava Imports

In 2021, global cassava imports contracted modestly to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cassava imports declined modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Global imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tonnes) and Thailand (X tonnes) prevails in cassava imports structure, together making up X% of total imports. South Korea (X tonnes) and Vietnam (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (+X%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, China ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising X% of global imports.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The average cassava import price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per tonne), while Thailand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
