In 2020, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Chinese cassava market, when its value increased by X% to $X. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Malaysia (X tonnes) was the main destination for cassava exports from China, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, cassava exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Spain (X kg), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Malaysia amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-X% per year) and Spain (-X% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for cassava exports from China, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-X% per year) and Cambodia (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average cassava export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, picking up by X% against the previous year. in general, the export price showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cassava imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Thailand (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of cassava to China, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, cassava imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Viet Nam (X tonnes), more than tenfold. Cambodia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Thailand totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Viet Nam (-X% per year) and Cambodia (+X% per year).
