The global canary seed harvested area peaked at X ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

The country with the largest volume of canary seed production was Canada (X tonnes), comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, canary seed production in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Argentina (X tonnes), threefold. Thailand (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume in Canada amounted to -X%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Argentina (-X% per year) and Thailand (+X% per year).

Global exports stood at X tonnes in 2018, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, canary seed exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, global canary seed exports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of global canary seed exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Canada decreased at an average annual rate of -X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, India (+X%), Egypt (+X%), the Netherlands (+X%) and Argentina (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Over the period under review, the average export prices for canary seed reached their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2009 to 2018, the growth of global canary seed imports remained at a lower figure.

In general, the canary seed import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average import prices for canary seed reached their maximum at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
