Canary Seed Market Size in Malaysia

The revenue of the canary seed market in Malaysia amounted to $X in 2018, dropping by -X% against the previous year. At the same time, India (+X%), the Netherlands (+X%), Argentina (+X%) and Hungary (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. From 2007 to 2018, the share of Argentina and India increased by +X% and +X% percentage points, while Canada (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, the export prices for canary seed reached their maximum at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, approx. X tonnes of canary seed were imported into Malaysia; waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, canary seed imports continue to indicate a drastic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, canary seed imports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canary seed imports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, canary seed imports continue to indicate an abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Malaysia imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico (X tonnes), Brazil (X tonnes) and Belgium (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of canary seed in 2018. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Colombia (X tonnes), together making up a X% share of total imports. The following importers - the U.S. (X tonnes), Egypt (X tonnes), the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes), Portugal (X tonnes) and Algeria (X tonnes) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Indonesia, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2018, together accounting for X% of total imports. Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Colombia, the U.S., Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main importing countries, Indonesia recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the canary seed import price in Malaysia amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, the canary seed import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when the import price increased by X% y-o-y. Malaysia import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2018, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Algeria ($X per tonne) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne), while Italy ($X per tonne) and Colombia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
