Exports by Country
In 2023, Ghana (X units) was the key exporter of passenger cars, creating X% of total exports. Senegal (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X units), Gambia (X units), Togo (X units), Burkina Faso (X units) and Benin (X units). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports.
Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the passenger cars exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Gambia (X%) and Nigeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Benin (X%), Senegal (X%), Togo (X%) and Burkina Faso (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (X p.p.), Nigeria (X p.p.) and Gambia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Togo (X p.p.), Burkina Faso (X p.p.) and Senegal (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest passenger car supplying countries in Western Africa were Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Nigeria ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.
Ghana, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per unit in 2023, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Gambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Passenger car imports totaled X units in 2023, standing approx. at 2022 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, passenger car imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight decrease. In 2023, Nigeria (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units), Gambia (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units) were the key importers of passenger cars, together achieving X% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Gambia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported passenger cars in Western Africa, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.
