Imports in Western Africa

For the third consecutive year, Western Africa recorded decline in overseas purchases of machine-tools for working wood, which decreased by X% to X units in 2023. In general, imports, however, enjoyed pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, machine-tool for working wood imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Togo (X units), Senegal (X units), Liberia (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Sierra Leone (X units), Benin (X units) and Mali (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Mali (X%), Togo (X%), Liberia (X%), Guinea (X%) and Benin (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Western Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Sierra Leone (X%), Senegal (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Nigeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Ghana, Togo, Guinea and Mali increased by X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest machine-tool for working wood importing markets in Western Africa were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.
