In value terms, manuka exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 116%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for manuka exports from Turkey, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, manuka exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +33.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+66.8% per year) and Germany (+17.6% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for manuka exports from Turkey, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +31.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+59.9% per year) and Germany (+12.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average manuka export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -15% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Manuka Imports
Imports into Turkey
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of manuka, when their volume decreased by -31.7% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 207%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, manuka imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 126%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of manuka imports to Turkey, together comprising 94% of total imports. Iran, China, Australia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.5%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +197.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and India ($X) were the largest manuka suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 92% share of total imports. Iran, China, Australia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.3%.
Iran, with a CAGR of +171.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average manuka import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -36.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 51%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
