As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2009 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.
In value terms, sulphur exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.
Exports by Country
Moldova (X tonnes) was the main destination for sulphur exports from Romania, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphur exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X kg), eightfold.
From 2007 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Moldova amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).
In value terms, Moldova ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphur exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total exports.
From 2007 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Moldova stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sulphur export price stood at $X per tonne in 2019, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.
In value terms, sulphur imports soared to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2020, Germany (X tonnes) constituted the largest sulphur supplier to Romania, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphur imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tonnes), twofold. Japan (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (X% per year) and Japan (-X% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphur to Romania, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Spain ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (X% per year) and Japan (-X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average sulphur import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated tangible growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, sulphur import price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
