Wrapping Papers Market Size in Republic of Korea

In 2020, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the South Korean wrapping papers market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, the total consumption indicated a notable expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2016 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports amounted to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, saw slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes) was the main destination for wrapping papers exports from South Korea, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, wrapping papers exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Viet Nam (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Bangladesh (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to China amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Viet Nam (+X% per year) and Bangladesh (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from South Korea were China ($X), Viet Nam ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Japan and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X (Chinese) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average wrapping papers export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports shrank to $X in 2020. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Moreover, wrapping papers imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Japan totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+X% per year).

Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the price for Brazil ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
