Wrapping Papers Market Size in China

The Chinese wrapping papers market rose modestly to $X in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a resilient expansion. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports rose rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil (X tonnes), Viet Nam (X tonnes) and India (X tonnes) were the main destinations of wrapping papers exports from China, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Colombia, Japan, Hong Kong SAR, Thailand, Indonesia and the U.S., which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Colombia, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Viet Nam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Brazil ($X) were the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from China worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Brazil recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average wrapping papers export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, wrapping papers export price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China

In 2020, supplies from abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tonnes), India (X tonnes) and Canada (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of wrapping papers imports to China, with a combined X% share of total imports. Japan, the U.S., Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Brazil, Viet Nam, Indonesia and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Viet Nam (+X% per year), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Viet Nam ($X per tonne), while the price for India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
