The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +58.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of cattle hide and skin exports from Poland, with a combined 66% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, the Netherlands, Croatia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Ghana, which together accounted for a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Croatia (with a CAGR of +56.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of raw hides and skins of cattle decreased by -2.1% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cattle hide and skin imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 22%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
