The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plywood exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the key exporter of plywood in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports recording X cubic meters, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Chile (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Uruguay (X%). Ecuador (X cubic meters) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plywood exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Chile (X%), Ecuador (X%) and Uruguay (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Brazil (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Uruguay (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Peru was the largest importer of plywood in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports finishing at X cubic meters, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. Chile (X cubic meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Colombia (X cubic meters), Argentina (X cubic meters) and Uruguay (X cubic meters). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. The following importers - Suriname (X cubic meters) and Guyana (X cubic meters) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Peru increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Guyana (X%), Uruguay (X%) and Suriname (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guyana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Colombia (X%), Chile (X%) and Argentina (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Peru, Uruguay and Guyana increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per cubic meter), while Suriname ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
