In value terms, crude granite exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. Uruguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -11.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uruguay (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uruguay increased by +3.2 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest crude granite supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uruguay ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports.

In Brazil, crude granite exports contracted by an average annual rate of -9.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uruguay (+15.1% per year) and Argentina (-7.1% per year).

Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -1.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Imports by Country

Argentina dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 93% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), achieving a 5.3% share of total imports.

Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of granite (crude). At the same time, Colombia (+18.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012-2022. Colombia (+4.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported granite (crude) in MERCOSUR, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 2.4% share of total imports.
