The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Argentina represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), constituting a 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - Chile (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Argentina ($X), Mexico ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined 92% share of total exports. Peru and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.8%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +41.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates, when their volume decreased by -5.2% to X tons. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 18%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Peru represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 43% of total imports. Chile (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (16%) and Mexico (5.7%). The following importers - Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - each recorded a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +40.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Peru ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined 79% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +32.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
