Exports from China
In 2021, approx. X tons of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates were exported from China; picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, exports recorded a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 423%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Congo (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main destinations of sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from China, together comprising 29% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +43.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Congo ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the largest markets for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exported from China worldwide, with a combined 27% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Congo, with a CAGR of +37.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 378% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Congo (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates
Imports into China
In 2021, overseas purchases of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +30.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +31.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates supplier to China, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X tons), with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +14.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+5.1% per year) and Austria (+5.4% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to China, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +16.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+13.3% per year) and India (+7.1% per year).

The average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
